Bring Order to Chaos: Why Rushing a City Manager Vote Is a Disservice to Winter Springs

By Paul D. Diaz, EA, MBA

Candidate for Winter Springs City Commissioner

Why Rushing a City Manager Vote Is a Disservice to Winter Springs

As residents of Winter Springs, we all want a city government that works efficiently, transparently, and in the best interest of our community. Unfortunately, the current process being pushed by the commission, mayor, and interim city manager to rush a vote on the next city manager before the upcoming election is the exact opposite of what our city needs.

This whirlwind approach is not only unnecessary, but it also shuts out the voices of residents who deserve to have a say in the direction of our city. In a democracy, the people’s voice at the ballot box is paramount, and any decisions of this magnitude should be made with the total input and participation of the community. Pushing through a decision of such importance without allowing the people to speak at the ballot box is not just undemocratic; it’s chaotic.

Our city has been plagued by instability and rushed decisions for too long, and this latest move only adds to the chaos. My commitment to Winter Springs is to “Bring Order to Chaos”—to advocate for a city government that is systematic, logical, and genuinely representative of the people’s will. We must take the time to ensure that our next city manager is chosen through a process that reflects the values and needs of our entire community, not just the priorities of a few.

Let’s stand together for a thoughtful, transparent, and orderly process. Our city deserves nothing less.
